Malaysia runs several separate systems, not one visa check malaysia travellers can use for every document. Match what you hold to the right column below before you search for a portal.

How to check a Malaysia eVISA online

To check a Malaysia eVISA online, sign in to the official MyVISA portal with the email address tied to your application, then open your case to read its status, validity dates and entry type. There is currently no separate page that accepts only a passport number.

Many older guides describe a standalone “enter your visa number” checker. On the date above, every one of those old links redirected us to the same MyVISA sign-in screen, so treat any page that skips the sign-in step as out of date. Here is the process we verified live.

1. Open the MyVISA portal using the button below (it opens malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my in a new tab).
2. Choose Individual if the eVISA is your own, or Employer / Organizer if you are checking on behalf of staff.
3. Already registered? Select “Returning user, click here” and sign in with your email and password.
4. New here? Enter your email address and select Send OTP, then follow the prompt to verify it.
5. Inside the account, open your application to see its current status.
6. If approved, open the eVISA itself to read the validity dates and whether it allows single or multiple entry.

What your eVISA sticker or approval shows

An approved eVISA is a printed document, not a sticker glued into your passport, and it lists a handful of fields you should match against your own passport before you fly. Read it carefully, since a mismatch can cause a problem at check-in or on arrival.

Treat the eVISA as an approval to travel, not a guarantee of entry. An immigration officer at the Malaysian border still decides whether to admit you, so carry your printed approval alongside your passport, return ticket and any documents your visa category asked for.

What is a Malaysia calling visa (Visa With Reference)?

A calling visa is the everyday name for a Visa With Reference, a pre-approval that a Malaysia-based sponsor arranges before you can apply for an entry visa. It is separate from the eVISA and comes first in the process for many work, study and dependent cases.

The Immigration Department describes it as a visa a Malaysian mission abroad issues once its headquarters has approved the case. Your sponsor, whether an employer, an educational institution or a Malaysian spouse, submits the reference application on your behalf. Once it is approved, they pass the reference details to you, and you use them to apply for the actual entry visa at a Malaysian embassy or consulate.

Because the sponsor holds the application, there is no separate portal for the traveller to check a calling visa directly. If yours is taking a long time, the fastest route is asking your sponsor or their appointed agent for an update, not searching for a public checker that does not exist.

Malaysia student visa check on EMGS

A Malaysia student visa check runs through EMGS, the company the Ministry of Higher Education set up to handle international student applications. Unlike the eVISA portal, its basic status search does not need an account.

1. Open the EMGS site at visa.educationmalaysia.gov.my using the link below.
2. Find the Check Application Status section on the homepage.
3. Enter your Travel Document Number (your passport number).
4. Select your Nationality from the list.
5. Tick the consent box, then submit the search to Track My Application.

The result shows a stage such as under review, pending additional documents, or visa approved and awaiting issuance. If EMGS asks for more documents, log in to your full EMGS account, not just the public search, to upload them.

Malaysia foreign worker visa check: the PLKS work permit

The permit most foreign workers hold is a Visit Pass (Temporary Employment), commonly called PLKS. The Immigration Department issues it after a worker passes a medical examination, and states it is valid for a period of up to 12 months before renewal.

We could not verify a public page where an individual worker checks their own PLKS or Employment Pass status by passport number. Renewals and quota applications now run through the Foreign Workers Centralised Management System, which employers use, not a portal built for the worker to search directly. If you need to confirm your own permit, the reliable path is your employer or the agent who handled your paperwork, since they hold the account the record sits in.

• Ask your employer or HR contact for your current PLKS status and expiry date.
• If you have no employer contact, the Immigration Department office that handled your case can confirm your record.
• Keep your medical clearance and passport details ready, since both are usually needed to trace a permit.

If your Malaysia visa check shows no result

A blank or failed search usually comes down to one of a few causes. Work through them in order before assuming something is wrong with your visa itself.

1. You are signed in to MyVISA with a different email than the one used to apply. Ask whoever submitted the application which address they used.
2. On EMGS, the travel document number or nationality was typed slightly differently from your passport. Recheck both against the passport page.
3. The application has not been submitted yet, or is still with the sponsor or agent rather than the Immigration Department.
4. The record sits on a different system entirely, for example a work permit your employer manages rather than something you can search yourself.
