Visit visa validity check and countdown

A Saudi visit visa validity check tells you two things: whether the visa is still active, and how many days are left before the holder must leave or re-enter. This page covers how to check visit visa validity in KSA on the official portals, how single and multiple entry visas differ, the extension route, and what happens if the countdown runs out.

Visit visa countdown: days left

Enter the visa issue date or the date the holder entered Saudi Arabia and the number of days it allows. Common visit visa lengths are 30 and 90 days.

What is this date?
Common: 30, 60 or 90 days. Use the number on your visa.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to our servers.

Absher (أبشر) is the Ministry of Interior’s e-government platform where individuals handle their own government services, including many visa and iqama tasks. It is the main portal for a visit visa validity check when an individual sponsor invited the visitor. Muqeem (مقيم) is the resident-services portal built by Elm with the General Directorate of Passports, used mainly by employers to manage their workers’ passport, visa and residency transactions, and it covers the same check when a company issued the visa instead.

Check the official record

Pick who is checking, follow the exact steps, then open Absher. Numbers are typed on the government site, never on this page.

Use your own Absher account to view the visa you invited someone on.

 1. Open Absher using the button below (it opens the official absher.sa site in a new tab).
 2. Sign in with your Absher username and password, or your Nafath app.
 3. From your dashboard, choose Absher Individuals, then My Services.
 4. Open Passports, then Visa Services and select the family visit visa you sponsored.
 5. Read the record: visa status, entry window, validity end date and the days remaining.
 6. If the visa was issued through Muqeem instead, use the alternative check further down this page.
Open Absher visa services (official site)

You enter your details on absher.sa, the government site, not here. Your visa and passport numbers stay on the government site.

Visa issued through an employer sponsor?

Some visit visas are issued through a company on Muqeem rather than an individual's Absher account. If Absher shows no record, try the Muqeem visa validity check by visa number instead.

Open Muqeem visa validity (official site)

You enter your details on muqeem.sa, the government site, not here. Search by visa number if you do not hold an iqama.

Single entry vs multiple entry visit visas

A visit visa (تأشيرة زيارة) is a temporary visa allowing a family member or visitor to enter Saudi Arabia for a limited period. Saudi Arabia issues it as either a single entry or a multiple entry visa, and this changes how you read the validity check result. The table below sets out the practical difference between the two.

PointSingle entryMultiple entry
Entries allowed One trip only; the visa is used up on exit Several separate trips within the visa's own validity window
Stay per visit Set by the visa; commonly up to 90 days Commonly up to 90 days per visit, confirmed on the visa itself
What happens on exit The visa is closed; a fresh application is needed for another trip The holder can re-enter later, as long as the overall validity has not passed
Where it shows on Absher Marked as single entry, with one entry and one exit date once used Marked as multiple entry, with a running list of entries and exits

Entry counts and stay limits vary by nationality and sponsor type. Always confirm the exact figures printed on your own visa or shown in the Absher record, rather than assuming a fixed number.

What the visit visa validity result means

Whichever portal you use, the record comes back in a small set of fields. Use this table to read them, since the government screens sometimes label a field in Arabic even on the English view.

FieldArabic you may seeWhat it tells you
Visa statusسارية / منتهيةWhether the visa is currently valid or has expired
Visa typeنوع التأشيرةFamily visit, personal visit, single or multiple entry
Issue dateتاريخ الإصدارWhen the visa was issued, the starting point for the countdown
Entry dateتاريخ الدخولWhen the holder actually entered Saudi Arabia, if they already have
Valid untilصالحة حتىThe last date to enter, or the last date to leave once inside

Once you have the issue or entry date and the number of days allowed, put both into the calculator above. It works out the exact expiry date and the days left in both the Gregorian and Hijri calendars, so a family sponsor and a travelling relative can plan around the same countdown.

Extending a Saudi visit visa

Some visit visas can be extended without leaving Saudi Arabia first. Absher and Muqeem both carry an Extension of Visit Visa service that opens for a short window before the current validity ends, and stays open for a short grace period after. The sponsor applies, pays the service fee shown on screen, and confirms the holder has valid health insurance before submitting.

 1. Sign in to Absher (or Muqeem, for a company-sponsored visa) as the sponsor.
 2. Open Visa Services, then Extension of Visit Visa.
 3. Select the visa and confirm the holder's health insurance is valid for the extended period.
 4. Pay the service fee shown on screen for that visa category.
 5. Wait for the confirmation, then recheck the validity record for the new expiry date.

The exact days you can apply early, the grace period after expiry, and the fee amount depend on the visa category and change from time to time. Confirm all three on the portal itself before you rely on them; do not assume an extension is automatic or guaranteed. Check how we verify portal steps for our method.

Need cover before applying? See our visit visa insurance check for how that requirement is confirmed. If the application itself is still moving through approval rather than already issued, use our visit visa status check instead, and see the MOFA visa platform guide for the wider application screens.

If the visit visa countdown runs out

Saudi authorities have publicly stated a tiered penalty for overstaying a visit visa: a fine for a first violation, a larger fine with jail time reported for a second, and a further increase with longer jail time for a third, plus separate fines for a sponsor who fails to report the overstay. Deportation and a re-entry ban are also possible outcomes. We are not restating exact riyal figures here because they can change; confirm the current fine schedule with the Jawazat or on Absher before relying on any number you read elsewhere.

In practice, the safest approach is simple: check the days remaining with the tool above, start an extension request or book the exit well before the deadline, and never assume a few extra days are tolerated. If the holder has already overstayed, the sponsor should contact Absher or the Jawazat directly rather than waiting for the visa to be checked again.

Checking a visit visa validity elsewhere in the GCC

The countdown tool above does not care which country issued the visa: give it a start date and a number of days, and it returns the expiry date and days left. The portal steps and the fine and extension rules on this page are Saudi-specific, since each Gulf state runs its own immigration system. Visiting a relative who is about to leave a GCC job for good? Check our end of service hubs for the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman or Bahrain, or start from the Saudi end of service calculator if the sponsor is the one leaving Saudi Arabia.

Visit visa validity check: common questions

How do I check visit visa validity in KSA?

The sponsor signs in to Absher, opens Visa Services, and selects the family or personal visit visa to see its status and validity end date. A traveller without an Absher login searches by the visa number and passport number instead. Either way, enter the dates into the tool above for the exact days remaining.

What is the difference between a single entry and multiple entry visit visa?

A single entry visit visa lets the holder enter Saudi Arabia once and must be used within that one trip. A multiple entry visit visa allows several separate trips within its overall validity window, though each individual stay is still capped, commonly at up to 90 days. Check your own visa document for its exact entry count and stay limit.

How do I check family visit visa validity in Absher?

Sign in to Absher as the sponsor, go to Passports, then Visa Services, and open the family visit visa record. Absher shows the entry and exit dates already used, the visa status, and the date the visa must be used by. This view belongs to the sponsor, not the visiting relative.

Can I extend a Saudi visit visa online?

Yes, for eligible visit visas. Absher and Muqeem both carry an Extension of Visit Visa service, typically opening a short window before the visa expires and staying open for a few days after. It usually asks for valid health insurance and a service fee. Confirm the exact window and fee on the portal, since they depend on your visa category.

What happens if a visit visa expires while the holder is still in Saudi Arabia?

Saudi authorities treat an overstayed visit visa as a serious violation, with escalating fines and the possibility of jail and deportation for repeat cases, and separate penalties for a sponsor who fails to report it. Do not wait for the deadline: use the countdown tool above and start an extension or exit plan several days early.

How do I check visit visa validity without a Saudi Absher account?

A traveller abroad does not need their own Absher account. Ask the sponsor for the visa number, then use Absher’s number-based visa inquiry, or ask the sponsor to check their own Absher account and share the validity dates with you directly.

Does this validity check tool work for a UAE or Bahrain visit visa too?

The countdown tool above works for any visit visa: enter the issue or entry date and the number of days it is valid for, and it calculates the expiry date and days left. The step-by-step portal instructions on this page are specific to Saudi Arabia. For a UAE visit, see our UAE end of service calculator hub instead.
